PHASE III (2001-2008) GOING THE DISTANCE
At the beginning of Phase III an expanded LSEMS goal was developed to improve and protect the health of the Lake
Simcoe watershed ecosystem and improve associated recreational opportunities by:
• restoring a self-sustaining coldwater fishery;
• improving water quality;
• reducing phosphorus loads to Lake Simcoe;
• protecting the natural resources in the surrounding watershed.
The important program thrusts during Phase III were:
• continuation and expansion of stewardship projects;
• upgrades to municipal stormwater and private septic systems;
• continued improvement to environmental science and monitoring in the watershed;
• greater focus on basin-wide planning to help guide land use and development;
• expanding the LSEMS partnership;
• engaging the community.
