Precipitation Quality Monitoring

From the quantification of phosphorus inputs described in the Lake Simcoe Watershed section of the site, atmospheric deposition represents a significant source of nutrient loading to Lake Simcoe. The nutrients within wet (precipitation) and dry deposition, including phosphorus, are derived from wind erosion, particularly from exposed agricultural fields, and the deposition of ash from industrial processes that are not necessarily local.

Atmospheric inputs are estimated based upon the measured volume of incoming precipitation and the chemical composition of that precipitation. The following sections address the precipitation collector locations, parameters sampled for and the sampling methodologies.
