Private Septic System Upgrade/Repair Guidelines

Funding and Technical Support Is Available Cost-share Rate: 50%

Maximum Payment: $2,500


Purpose:

To protect ground and surface water by repairing or replacing faulty or malfunctioning septic systems.

    Eligible projects

  • Repair or replacement of an existing private septic system which has failed biologically.

  • The system must be 100m or less from surface water (ie. a lake, river, stream or ditch leading directly to surface water).

    Project Details

  • A copy of the local Health Unit's certificate of approval (Durham Region), or an approved municipal permit/application (Simcoe County) for the construction design.

  • An approved inspection report and approval for use from the local Health Unit (Durham Region), or municipal office (Simcoe County).

  • A copy of the Health Unit/municipal office receipt showing payment of the required fee must accompany all applications for a grant under this program.

    Eligible Costs

  • Construction costs of a certified private septic system installer, including labour, materials and equipment, associated with approved septic system repairs or replacements.

  • Materials purchased by the owner and used to construct his\her own repairs or replacements.

    Ineligible Costs

  • System upgrades to facilitate household expansion (ie. addition of dishwashers, bathrooms, or other devices that increase wastewater volume).

  • Machinery or equipment used by the applicant, family dependents or the applicant's business.

  • Prescribed fees or professional services related to obtaining the Certificate of Approval or municipal permit.

  • Taxes

Funding for this item is not available in all areas: check with LSRCA staff to determine eligibility.
