Pond Bypass Channels and Bottom Draw Outlet Project Guidelines
Funding and Technical Support Is Available
Cost-share Rate: 33%
Maximum Payment: $5,000
Purpose:
To protect or enhance cold water habitats and continuity of fish passage in streams, in conjunction with another project which will prevent the contamination of surface and groundwater (ie. restrictive fencing, stream buffer planting, erosion control, etc.).
Eligible Projects
- dam or weir removal
- pond bottom draw conversions (coldwater systems only)
- creation of pond bypass channels
Project Details
- All in-water works will be subject to reviews, approvals and/or permits from the LSRCA, the MNR and the federal DFO, and are the responsibility of the applicant.
- All permits must be in place prior to the final approval of a project.
- An approved, engineered plan must be submitted to the Review Committee.
- Bypass channels and weir/dam removals must be designed to reflect natural channel design principles, and must allow unimpeded passage of fish and other aquatic life.
- Bottom draw structures must be maintained periodically to clear blockages at the inlet.
- Disturbed soils must be fully re-vegetated and restored after project completion.
Eligible Costs
- Engineering and design fees
- Contractors fees and labour
- Construction and materials associated with an approved design
Ineligible Costs
- Permits
- Installation of new ponds
- Dredging and enlargement of existing ponds
- Pond maintenance, aquatic plant removal
- Stocking and removal of fish or other aquatic life
- Enhancements for recreational use, or aesthetic purposes
- Machinery or equipment used by the applicant, family dependents or the applicant's business
- Taxes
