Clean Water Diverson Project Guidelines

Funding and Technical Support Is Available

Cost-share Rate: 50%

Maximum Payment: $2,500


Purpose:

To reduce the amount of contaminated runoff from manure storage and exercise yards by diverting clean rain and snow melt water away from sources of contamination to a satisfactory outlet; and to promote water conservation by using rainwater collection systems to provide a source of irrigation water.

    Eligible Projects

  • Eavestroughs or clean water diversion structures (such as berms and ditches) that direct water away from barnyards, exercise yards and/or manure storage areas.

  • Any other permanent technique to keep rain and snow from becoming contaminated by manure, or adding to the volume of contaminated runoff.

  • Rainwater collection systems.

    Project Details

  • Downspouts located in areas which livestock can access must be made of schedule 40 PVC (or stronger materials) and be well secured to prevent dislodging.

  • All clean water diversion projects must discharge clean water away from any source of contamination, and not pose other hazards such as soil erosion.

  • Once completed, the ongoing maintenance and associated costs of the project is the responsibility of the landowner.

    Eligible Costs

  • Materials and labour associated with an approved project.

  • Tile outlet protection including: rip-rap or appropriate armour material, filter cloth, rodent guards.

    Ineligible Costs

  • Paving of exercise yards.

  • Tile drainage of agricultural fields.

  • Machinery or equipment used by the applicant, family dependents or the applicant's business.

  • Permits

  • Taxes
